class president · Dominic Marsalese
Dominic was born and raised in Metro Detroit. After graduating from Northville High School, he attended Michigan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology. An avid golfer, Dominic finds his peak dopamine rush on the first tee box during an early morning round on a beautiful summer day. Growing up in a large Italian family, he was taught by his elders that cooking for loved ones is one of the most meaningful ways to show love. Today, one of Dominic’s favorite hobbies is preparing meals for friends and family, finding joy in bringing those closest to him together around the table. Dominic is known to pace manically around the house and yard like a madman while studying. He enjoys any and all kinds of competition, going on runs with his two dogs, and eating entire watermelons in one sitting.
VICE President · James Ha
James was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Troy, Michigan, when he was six. He attended Troy High School and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, where he received a B.S. in Movement Science. He later moved to Bloomfield Hills, became a personal trainer at Equinox, and eventually started a small personal training business of his own.
When he’s not doing his 1,000 Anki reviews per day, you’ll find James watching any Detroit sport, golfing, skiing, drinking caffeine in any form, cooking a recipe he found on social media, or spending some quality time doomscrolling. He also occasionally trains for unnecessarily difficult physical activities like a Hyrox competition or a marathon “for fun.”
In any case, James will try anything “for the vibes” and is ready to vibe with anything and anyone.
treasurer · Yousef El-Magharbel
Yousef was born in Ann Arbor, MI but was raised in Southern California. Honoring his Michigander roots, he attended the University of Michigan where he double majored in Bassoon Performance and Performing Arts & Technology.
When he's not catching up on lectures, Yousef is likely fighting the urge to climb any structure he comes across, bumping 80's soul/funk music (The Whispers - favorite band), or kickin' it with his pups Zeemo and Boosa. If you see this guy on campus, just know he's always down to defend his Connect 4 champion title (self-proclaimed), make a beat for anybody who asks, or talk about the current random thing he’s attempting to build in his garage.
class Representative · Sarah Schenck
Sarah Schenck grew up in Grand Rapids as the oldest of five. She returned to her birthplace of Ann Arbor for undergrad, earning a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan. After graduating in 2024, she road-tripped across the country to California, where she completed a Master’s in Bioengineering at Stanford University.
When she’s not studying or playing Find-That-Nerve with her anatomy group, Sarah enjoys water polo, reading, and exploring. She prefers playing sports over watching them and is excited to join pick-up games of volleyball, pickleball, or tennis. If you have ideas, feedback, or riddles, she’d love to hear from you!
Sarah is thrilled to get to know our class better and looks forward to the next four years of shared experiences.
class Representative · Badruddin Mahamed
badruddin.mahamed@med.wayne.edu
Badruddin (pronounced better-uh-dean) is from Los Angeles, where he spent the last 10 years or so, but he was born in Wisconsin and spent his early childhood in North Carolina and Oregon. Badruddin graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.S. in Quantitative Biology. During undergrad, he worked full-time night shifts as an Emergency Department Technician at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he found his passion in caring for pediatric patients and the superhuman powers granted by Celsius energy drinks.
Outside of med school, you can catch Badruddin playing volleyball, keeping up with politics through late night comedy shows, and writing spoken word poetry on the Muslim-American male experience. While Los Angeles has been his home for a while now, Badruddin is enjoying the cheaper prices and far less traffic in Detroit. He is excited to make Michigan his home for the next four years and maybe even beyond (although it hasn’t snowed yet so maybe ask him if he still wants to stay after that).
class Representative · Jesse Hawkins
Jesse Hawkins was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where he attended University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He earned his B.S. in Biology from the Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University in 2024. During his gap year, Jesse worked next door to Wayne State University School of Medicine at DMC Hospital, gaining valuable experience as both a medical scribe and healthcare project manager.
A hands-on learner with a strong work ethic, Jesse enjoys staying active—whether that means tackling a manual labor project, playing sports, or exploring new places through travel. Now as a proud member of the WSU School of Medicine Class of 2029, he’s excited to serve his peers as a student representative and make a meaningful impact throughout the year.
