class president · Aarti Patel

aarti@med.wayne.edu

Aarti is a 5’3” ball of energy from Northville, Michigan. She went to the University of Pittsburgh (#Hail2Pitt) where she double majored in neuroscience and anthropology - the best of both worlds. While she misses Pittsburgh’s public transport and foodie culture, she’s happy to be back in the D (#DetroitHustlesHarder) and living in the city that inspired her journey into medicine. Fair warning, Aarti is a self-proclaimed astrology queen who will likely try to guess your astrology sign within the first 15 minutes of meeting you. When she’s not reading your birth chart or talking about how she’s a “Taurus Sun, Aries Rising, Leo Moon” (whatever that means), you can find her buying a new plant that she definitely doesn’t have room for in her apartment (#plantmom) or watching a Christopher Nolan movie. Aarti forgoes a caffeine addiction (seriously, she’s never had coffee before) for something much healthier, Coca-Cola. Among her other obsessions are her love for Condado Tacos, saying the word “ope”, and reminding everyone that she’s a middle child. Her ultimate goal in life is to be on Wheel of Fortune and you can catch her practicing her skills every night at 7pm.

VICE President · Crisshy Auguste

crisshy.auguste@med.wayne.edu

Crisshy is from Orlando, Florida and attended University of Central Florida (Go Knights). If she’s not napping, you can catch her watching kdramas and dancing in her living room. She is an aspiring knitter, guitarist and baker just have to find the time to stop napping first. She loves anything Disney/Pixar or music related which makes her top two favorite specialties pediatrics and ENT very understandable.

treasurer · Brandon Hudson

Brandon is from Cupertino, California a city in the south end of the San Francisco Bay Area, and home to the Apple Inc’s headquarters. Growing up, he was in the Boy Scouts, and spent most weekends hiking, camping, and building shelters for stray animals. He got his degree in Biology at University of California Merced where he also tutored Chemistry and transformed into a self-proclaimed BBQ grill master. Tired of the beautiful weather in California, he took his talents to Michigan, and now spends time volunteering with Street Medicine Detroit, playing sports of any kind, and watching movies with friends. Fun fact: his favorite SpongeBob character is Mr. Krabs, whose financial savvy was the inspiration for taking the Treasurer position.

Representative · Lefteri Halkias

hi9321@wayne.edu

Lefteri is a proud Greek-American who was born and raised in the North Chicago suburbs. He attended THE Ohio State University where he majored in Neuroscience with a Spanish minor. His favorite part about Detroit has been the food scene and he is always on the lookout for new spots to try. Despite growing up with Chicago deep dish pizza, Lefteri believes that there is no such thing as a bad style of pizza (so long as ingredient quality is consistent across the styles) and will adamantly insist that the best style of pizza depends on what mood one finds themself in. Outside of senate, he enjoys spending his free time cooking, exploring Detroit with friends, and playing video games. He recently learned how to ski, but is not good enough to list that as a hobby (yet).

Representative · Ruth Amoakohene

hj1855@wayne.edu

Ruth was born in Kumasi, Ghana, where she grew up playing soccer with her brothers. After majoring in Physics and minoring in electronics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, she moved to Newark, New Jersey, to further her education. After an internship at NASA, she found a rejuvenated passion for medicine and is the first in her family to attend medical school. When she’s not watching movies, napping, working in the hospital, or making her favorite Jollof rice, you can find her at the center of the dance floor at any Afrobeat festival in the city of Detroit. She is keeping her mind open when it comes to specialty choices but is currently most interested in interventional radiology and general surgery.

Her second gap year she was a scribe in the ED at Beaumont Dearborn and for her 3rd gap year she got a Masters of public health from George Washington University. She mostly enjoys reading science fiction or non-fiction books on any topic as long as it comes highly recommended. OSR · RIYA SHAH

riya.shah@med.wayne.edu

Riya is a proud lacto-vegetarian from the exotic town of Farmington Hills, MI (if you consider a scenic 25-minute drive down M-10 “exotic”). She spent four years in Orlando, FL at the University of Central Florida but decided to forego the humidity and return to the great state of Michigan—four seasons are a must! As an only child, she’s had to stock up on hobbies so you can find her reading (Goodreads is her favorite social media app), learning a new language (rocking a 215+ day streak on Duolingo), dancing (talent ranges from classical to folk to the macarena), knitting (novice), painting (also novice), and hiking (does one hike/year count?). Riya’s always down to gush about Harry Potter, Parks and Rec, and any/all Bollywood movies, so be sure to stop her anytime you see her!

Lc/House rep · elise turke

eliseturke@wayne.edu

Elise is from Beer City USA… Grand Rapids, MI! She has a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Spanish from Michigan State University (go green!) where she also dove on the varsity diving team and sang in an a cappella group. When she’s not studying or dancing around her apartment, you can find her at the rock climbing gym, hiking/kayaking/generally spending time outdoors, or curled up reading a fantasy book. She also loves to draw/paint and watch singing competition TV shows. She finds most specialties to be pretty cool, but is currently most interested in OBGYN or Neurology! She also holds the role of Executive Webmaster, so please come to her with any ideas for the social media or website.
